Tomato jam is a natural cream prepared and used as a dessert at breakfast, mainly as an accompaniment to bread. It is prepared in different ways depending on the situations in which we are; it is also prepared using strawberries instead of tomatoes. Although it is usually also prepared as an industrial product, but without forgetting its homemade recipe. It is easy to prepare and its consumption is popular in Peru.

Mermelada de tomate (Peruvian recipes).

Ingredients:

  • 1 kg of ripe tomatoes (fresh).
  • 1/2 kg of blonde or white sugar.

Recipe procedure:

  1. In a pot with water parboil the kilogram of tomato, and proceed to peel (remove peel and seeds).
  2. This has to be cold to be able to peel.
  3. In a separate pot start to cook (without peel and seeds), then add the sugar. Put on low heat, until it gets ready.
  4. Finish when the tomato forms a uniform mass. Then let cool, and serve on crackers, fried sweet potatoes, or whole wheat bread.
