The Lenteja serrana or also called "Menestra marrón" and in some occasions "Lenteja baby", is a very popular stew and used to accompany many of our meals. It is considered a very important input because it contains many nutrients, and is the preferred ingredient of many housewives and its consumption is highly recommended because it has a list of nutritional properties that benefit us in the long term. Nowadays, its preparation is very traditional, and for its cooking only follows a procedure like the one described below. And once it is done we will have a great meal.

Brown lentils or also called brown stew.

Ingredients for the Serrano lentils:

  • ½ kg (500 g) of selected serrano lentils.
  • ½ kg (500 g) of freshly ground garlic.
  • 1 tablespoon of salt or to taste.

Recipe procedure.

  1. In a medium pot, add the "lenteja serrana" and over it water up to the half. And season with salt to taste (there is also the possibility of not using salt, but the flavor will be tasteless).
  2. Before cooking, it is indispensable that you know how to calculate the necessary quantity and take to cook what corresponds (that is to say, the quantity of menestra to cook).
  3. After having calculated the necessary quantity, put to cook on normal heat and cover the pot with its lid (remember to leave an open space so that the foam that comes out during cooking does not accumulate).
  4. During this time, add 1-2 tablespoons of ground garlic and stir with a spoon from one side to the other until everything is combined. Check for doneness and turn off the heat (menestra has an average cooking time of 30 to 60 minutes).
  5. Serve immediately, or let it cool for a short time.

Note: The amount you can cook depends on the number of people or dishes you are going to serve. The usual is to correspond the quantity needed for each meal (in this recipe you cook 500 g of menestra).
